Which kind of helicopter lesson are you looking for?
There are three quite different ways into helicopter flying here. Start with the experience you actually want, then compare the options within it.
I want one to one flying with an instructor
Choose 20, 30, 40 or 60 minutes in the air, one to one with an instructor. These are the straightforward first flying lessons in the range.
I want a lower cost first helicopter experience
Tactical Flying is shared between three participants and combines observation sectors with a hands on flying sector.
I am interested in becoming a helicopter pilot
Pilot Insights combines a flying lesson with a broader introduction to helicopter training, aircraft and pilot career options.
Choose how long you want to fly
The 20, 30, 40 and 60 minute lessons all give you one to one flying time with an instructor. The biggest difference is simply how long you spend in the air.

Two different helicopter experiences
Tactical Flying and Pilot Insights are not simply shorter versions of the one to one lessons. Each has its own format and purpose.
Tactical Flying Lesson
£149Three short flights shared between three participants, with two observation sectors and one hands on flying sector.
Pilot Insights
£199A broader introduction to helicopter pilot training and career options, including a hands on flying lesson and time with qualified pilots.
What does it actually feel like to fly a helicopter?
A helicopter lesson is very different from simply going for a sightseeing ride.
Before you fly, the instructor explains the aircraft, the main controls and what to expect in the air. On the 20, 30, 40 and 60 minute lessons, the flying time is one to one with the instructor, giving you the chance to experience how the helicopter responds under their guidance.
No previous flying experience is needed. For many people this is their first time in a helicopter, let alone sitting in the front and experiencing the controls for themselves. The longer lessons simply give you more time in the air to get familiar with the feel and movement of the aircraft.
Tactical Flying offers a different shared format, while Pilot Insights is aimed at people who want to understand more about helicopter training and a possible career in aviation. That is why choosing the right type of experience matters before you book.

Common questions about helicopter flying lessons
Do I need any previous flying experience?
No. These experiences are designed for people who have never flown a helicopter before. The instructor explains the aircraft and controls before the flying begins.
Are all of the helicopter lessons one to one?
The 20, 30, 40 and 60 minute lessons provide one to one flying time with an instructor. Tactical Flying is a shared experience between three participants. Pilot Insights is a broader small group career experience that includes a flying lesson.
What is the difference between the 20, 30, 40 and 60 minute lessons?
The format is broadly similar: briefing followed by one to one flying with an instructor. The main difference is the amount of flying time, together with the number of locations and voucher validity shown on each lesson page.
Can the flying time count towards helicopter pilot training?
Adventure001 states that the flying time on these experiences can count towards future helicopter pilot training. If you plan to continue towards a licence, confirm the exact training credit with the flying school when you book.
Can I choose the location after buying the voucher?
Each lesson page shows the venues available for that particular experience. Check the individual lesson page for its location choices and voucher terms before you buy.
What happens if the weather is unsuitable?
Helicopter flying is weather dependent. If conditions are not suitable for flying, the operator will advise on the arrangements for rebooking.
